Kifaru Productions.

In 1990, they began to realize movies
and television
programs about Indians focus on history, and they felt a need
to bring
the modern day existance of Indians to light.
They focus on the rights of Indian
religious freedoms, land claims,

health care and several other
rights of todays' Indian nations.

"All things are connected.
Whatever befalls the earth
Befalls the sons of the earth.
Man did not weave the web of life.
He is merely a strand in it.
Whatever he does to the web,
He does to himself."
Chief Seattle, 1854

TRAIL OF TEARS

During the Trail of Tears, when many American Indians were starved, mistreated, frozen, and buried as time allowed, many of our ancestors escaped along the way. They did not sign the 'papers', their names will never be found on the 'rolls', they were forced to deny their heritage.
Why? During the long walk, the American Indians were treated as unfertile soil, rocky land of no value. The trail had no ending.. for many of our people. Others resurfaced and were believed to be of Spanish descent, Creole, or as I was once told, Black Dutch.
Where is the Oak Wreath that signifies true home, for those of us not accepted by our own, or by the white man? Do you know of the Trail of Tears? Maybe it is time you read of every path taken, I challenge you not to cry.

"Who Am I?"

"There should be no question.
Indians in the USA have been called the redman, buckskin, squaw (which is very offensive), natives, and many words I will not speak. Then came the time of the 'politically correct.' I became a Native American. I find no one who remembers being asked if they wanted to be called Native American. Yet, as with all decisions made for us, it was for 'our own good.'

It was not long before unhappiness was voiced by those whose color matched the very ones who renamed us. After all, they too were Native Americans, they were born in the USA. So dark angry eyes looked our way again.

I am a proud American. I am an Indian. I am Cherokee Indian.
Feel free to choose one.
I am also a person, a human being.
I am blind to the colors of my friends.
My words rise to the Great One, asking for the day when peace and acceptance are given to every being on our soil.
Judgement should not come from color, but from individual actions."
